Distributed Resource Scheduler is a service available in vSphere Enterprise and Enterprise Plus Editions which allows dynamic load-balancing across all hosts in a cluster.

DRS acts to identify contention for Compute resources (when multiple VMs are trying to use the same CPU/RAM, at the same time) and uses vMotion to migrate VMs to hosts where there will be no contention.
